ADVANTAGES OF FERROLABS, INC.’ FFS
FerroLabs, Inc. manufactures ferrofluid seals for shafts with a diameter from 6 to 1200 mm.
The seal is air-proof, that stands for its hermetic properties (helium leakage is less than 10-12 m3Pa/s) in the whole operational temperature range. Mechanical seals cannot guarantee such a high and stable level of hermerticity, for instance, a gland seal with a diameter of 20 mm has the leakage of 10-8 m3Pa/s at the temperature of 20°C, that leakage continues to grow up to 5×10-3 m3Pa/s at 80°C.
It ensures the hermeticity of rotary shafts at circular linear velocities from 0 to 20m/s with the same level of hermeticity.
It does not give off wearing products due to the lack of mechanical friction (seals are non-contact). Just thin ferrofluid rings provide the hermeticity of rotary components.
MTBF value is rather long (up to 15 years) due to the use of ferrofluid with a low pressure of saturated vapor.
It has a low antitorque moment. The antitorque moment of O-ring seal with a diameter of 20 mm is 0.5 Nì, as the antitorque moment of similar MFS is 0.1 Nm. The low antitorque moment decreases the heat generation and increases the seal’s lifespan
It does not require the service maintenance and any expendable materials.
